Engage Great People to Perform

Compass Group recognizes that our clients and customers have different needs and expectations.  We have created independent operating companies called sectors, which have their own identities and marketing strategies.  In order to mirror the company’s framework, sector Diversity Action Councils were created to meet the individual needs from a diversity and inclusion perspective.

Sector Diversity Action Councils are an important building block of Compass Group’s diversity process.  The Councils were created to offer strategic thinking, planning, and assessment and to ensure diversity and inclusion is addressed in ways that allow our organization to achieve and sustain a competitive advantage.  Sector Diversity Action Councils have a charter that outlines their leadership, membership, role and responsibilities.  Also, they are active in reviewing current conditions, identifying solutions, and executing and communicating new ideas.

Diversity Action Councils and Associations

 • B&I Diversity Action Council-comprised of Eurest, Flik and Restaurant Associates
 • Canteen Diversity Action Council
 • Chartwells Diversity Action Council
 • Corporate and Foodbuy Diversity Action Council
 • Levy IMPACT Forum
 • Morrison Diversity Action Council

Currently, members of each council are participating in the Core 4 Zone Teams. This will leverage the opportunity for sharing diversity “best practices” throughout the Core 4 via presentations/breakouts sessions/word of mouth.

The North American Diversity Action Council (NADAC) was originally created in 2003. Recently, the NADAC has been reintroduced and is responsible for making recommendations as it relates to diversity and inclusion to the sector diversity action councils and Officers of Compass Group.  For the upcoming year, the NADAC devised an action plan to help attract, retain and engage with and help monitor performance of associates by implementing non traditional hiring practices for potential associates and ensuring current associates have professional and educational development opportunities.   The NADAC is made up of chairpersons/representatives from the following action councils/associations: B&I (Eurest, Flik, Restaurant Associates), Canteen, Chartwells, Corporate and Foodbuy ,  Levy Restaurants and Morrison.

Diversity Week

Created and developed by the North American Diversity Councl in 2003, Diversity Week is Compass Group’s opportunity to stop and value the difference and likenesses all of our associates bring to our organization.  We understand that we are not a great company in spite of our differences; we are a great company because of our differences.  This year, Compass Group’s corporate offices held a Compass Got Talent competition during the Annual Diversity Week celebration.  Associates submitted entries in art, performance, mixed media, photography, and literature categories.

Awards and Recognition Programs

President’s Five Jewel Award for Best Practices in Diversity
Compass Group has established a program that recognizes associates and teams for achieving their Sector's business initiatives with excellence.  One important component of the program is the Five Jewel Award for Best Practices in Diversity.   Since 2003, over 20 awards have been given to a winning unit or team who clearly demonstrated teamwork, creativity, and community outreach. The optional diversity action items in the Be-A-Star program outline the requirements to compete for this award.  If a winning unit/team wins the Sector Award, they are eligible for the new North American Diversity Award-The President's Five Jewel for Best Practices in Diversity.

The President's Five Jewel Award is given to the sector Five Jewel Award winner and will carry the distinction as the North American Winner.
Winners are selected by their Diversity Action Council or Regional Be-A-Star Committee and will attend the National Be-A-Star Awards Celebration Banquet and be recognized by CEO Gary Green and Chief Diversity Officer Vincent Berkeley.
