~ WALKER’S FOOD PRODUCTS COMPANY IS RECALLING ITS 16oz., 5-lb. AND 10-lb. CONTAINERS OF “FOUR BEAN SALAD” ~

What you need to know...
·        Manufacturer is Walker’s Food Products Company, Missouri
·        The product in the 16 oz. containers was packaged under the Kay's Gourmet brand name
·        The product in the 5-lb. and 10-lb. containers was packaged under the Walker's Food Products Co. brand name
·        The containers are round clear plastic packages
·        Expiration date is stamped on the bottom surface
·        All 16oz., 5-lb. and 10-lb. containers with expiration dates 12/23/07 thru 04/5/08 are recalled
·        Product was distributed to distributors in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Due to complexity of the supply chain, it is possible that product was distributed out of these states.

February 18, 2008 - CLASS II VOLUNTARY RECALL: LOW HEALTH RISK – Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Co., Chino, Calif.,

~ Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Co., Chino, Calif., is voluntarily recalling approximately 143.3 MILLION pounds of raw and frozen beef products. ~

~ USDA has determined THESE PRODUCTS to be unfit for human food because the cattle did not receive complete and proper inspection. ~

What you need to know...

Manufacturer is New Era Canning Company of New Era, Michigan.
The list of recalled products, including distributor private-label and other brands, appears at the bottom of this alert.

UPC codes are universal. Examine the lot code information on the can end to determine whether the can is subject to recall, as some distributors may purchase these products from more than one supplier.

Examples of how a lot code may appear on a can of Green Beans, Italian Cut are: "00249 2BH7FL", "00249 1515 2BH7FL", "ITAL 2BH7FL" or "ITAL 1515 2BH7FL". (These are not necessarily actual can codes). In these examples, the "00249" and the "ITAL", being the first set of numbers or letters in the lot code, would be used to identify that the product was canned by New Era Canning.

CLASS I RECALL – HIGH HEALTH RISK – POSSIBLE CONTAMINATION WITH CLOSTRIDIUM BOTULINUM SPORES (‘BOTULISM’) ~

What you need to know:

• Manufacturer is New Era Canning Company of New Era, Michigan.
• All cans of green beans and garbanzo beans in #10 cans (large cans containing between 6 and 7 pounds) are recalled.
• The list of recalled products, including distributor private-label and other brands, appears at the bottom of this alert.
• The codes on the affected product begin with the numbers “00249,” or the letters “GREEN” or “GARB”.
• The code on the cans may be embossed (stamped into the metal of the can) or printed in ink on one of the metal can ends.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE FOOD SAFETY ISSUE AND REASON FOR THIS RECALL:
These products are being recalled because they may have been processed under conditions which could have led to contamination by Clostridium botulinum bacterium spores. Clostridium botulinum bacterium spores have the potential for growth that produces a toxin that causes a potentially fatal form of food poisoning - botulism. Symptoms of botulism poisoning in humans can begin from 6 hours to 2 weeks after eating food that contains the toxin. Symptoms may include double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and muscle weakness that moves progressively down the body, affecting the shoulders first, then descending to the upper arms, lower arms, thighs, and calves. Botulism poisoning also can cause paralysis of the breathing muscles, which can result in death unless assistance with breathing (mechanical ventilation) is provided.

IMPORTANT: The issues were uncovered in a FDA inspection of products that were in the company’s possession. NO product has tested positive for the toxin and there have been NO cases of botulism reported from these products.

STATEMENT REGARDING RECALL OF CARGILL GROUND BEEF PATTIES
October 9, 2007

On October 6, 2007 Cargill Meat Solutions Corp announced the recall of Ground Beef Products due to possible E. Coli 0157:H7 contamination. Compass Group immediately instructed all our accounts to check their inventory and segregate and mark any recalled product. Because the health and safety of our guests is our very highest priority, and as a precautionary measure, we also placed a hold on any product from the Cargill facility in Butler, Wisconsin.

After careful consideration and communication with Cargill, we feel that it is safe to lift the current ‘hold’ on non-recalled product produced in the Butler, Wisconsin plant.

We will, however, continue to focus on the removal of the recalled product in all our units.

The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Listeria infection in severe cases can cause miscarriages and still births among pregnant women.
